A different perspective

3 comments:

If you're a regular visitor of this site, am pretty sure that you've seen quite few photos of Al Jahili Fort that I have posted last year. Those photos were in black and white or in full color. This time around, let me share these photos that I have converted into sepia and I've added an old effect with the help of ACDSee Photomanager2009. I snapped these photos sometime in July 2010. The original copies were not so clear  because of the sand and dust that was all over the place.

According to the report of General Secretariat of the Executive Council of Emirate of Abu Dhabi , Al Jahili Fort was one of the winners in the 2010 International Architecture Award given by the Chicago Athenaeum: The Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art design and Urban Studies, which was held in Mexico City under the auspices of the Colegio de Arcquitectos de la Cuidad  de Mexico.

On another note, if you are interested in attending the Third International Festival of Falconry which will be held at Al Jahili Fort on December 10-18, 2011, you can click here to visit their website for the details.

Early detection can save lives

Meet Tahir Yaqoob, Khaled Hussein Al Qawasmeh, Sumaia Roubi and Mehad Araki who helped and manned the recently concluded mall activities for the Cancer Awareness Week organized and presented by Tawam Hospital and hosted by Bawadi Mall. Tahir and Mehad are Oncology nurses, Sumaia is a dietician and Khaled is an Oncology Research Nurse.

Tawam Hospital, in affiliation with John Hopkins Medicine, once again took the lead in promoting the early detection and treatment of cancer by giving extensive awareness campaigns in the region. The key element in this awareness campaign is the early detection which truly save lives.

This photo was taken yesterday, February 26, 2011 in the wide concourse of Bawadi Mall.

Al Muraba'a Fort

6 comments:

According to the information posted in the entrance of the Muraba'a Fort, also known as the Police Fort which sits right in the heart of the city, this fort was built in the 1940's under the order of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan (UAE's former president), then the ruler's representative in the Eastern province. This historic structure used to be the police headquarters and jail for long time. Dried mud bricks, clay and gypsum were the materials used for the its construction.

This photo was taken last August 26, 2010, during the 3rd week of the holy month of Ramadan.

"Lady in Red"

8 comments:

This lady in red was one of the solo performers in the International Circus on Ice which was held at the ice skating rink of Al Ain Mall last December 2010. The spectators were utterly amused with her performance as she danced and moved gracefully to the tune of an enchanting music.

These Russian beauties were some of the performers in Al Ain Mall's International Circus on Ice last December 2010. I had fun watching them dancing to the tune of an upbeat Spanish music.

I am looking forward to watching another Circus on Ice this year.

Engrossed

I snapped this photo at one of the small parks in Al Ain Town Center. This Pakistani man was sitting at one of the shady nook and was so busy reading the newspaper that he didn't even notice me taking this photo.

This is a typical scenario in Al Ain Town Center especially during the weekends and at noon time. By the way, I showed him the original photo when I noticed that he was about to leave. Fortunately, he didn't ask me to delete this photo and even told me "shukran sister"!

Flowers

"When flowers bloom so does hope"~~Lady Bird Johnson

Flowers here in the UAE, especially here in the Garden City, can tell when it's winter time. You'll see them blooming everywhere...be it in the parks, public gardens and even in the island of roads and roundabouts. During the month of July and August, when the temperature can almost turn your face into a bright "baked" red, it is very seldom to see flowers like these.

I snapped this photo at Al Muwaiji District while we were waiting for the "go" signal to cross the road.  My son JM asked me to take a photo of him at the center of these colorful flowers.

Al Ain Paradise

7 comments:
These photos were taken last week while I was practicing some long exposure shots at Al Ain Paradise, a public garden where in you can find the largest display of hanging baskets in the world. The Guinness World Records achievement was awarded on the 20th of March 2010. It is located at Zakher Area of Sweifi District, a 15-minute drive from Al Ain Town Center.

By the way, it is currently closed for renovation and will reopen sometime this month.

Al Ain Aerobatic Show 2011 Series: Miss Demeanour, RC Jets and helicopter, etc.

9 comments:
This is the last entry for my week-long Al Ain Aerobatic Show series. Yay! For today, let me share the rest of the photos. Enjoy!

Another beauty that anyone couldn't ignore was Miss Demeanour. According to the commentator on that day, this aircraft is a classic British jet fighter in a paint scheme, owned and flown by the former Royal Navy instructor pilot Jonathan Whaley. It scorched the skies high and extremely low around the heads of the crowd. This Hunter Hawk was undeniably a crowd pleaser with its eye-catching bravado performance. She was actually "dancing" in the air.

It wasn't only an aeroshow, there were some death-defying motocross stunts too.

Part of the event was the awarding rites for the winners of Desert Challenge which was conducted on Friday, February 4, 2011. The overall winner was Castor Fantoba from Spain.

These skydivers were from Fazzaa Sky Team based in Dubai, UAE. Their skydiving skills were really impressive. I have already changed the lens of camera when I saw these skydivers.

At 06:00 P.M we left the grandstand hoping to check out the static on-ground display. We managed to have a look at some of the aircrafts.

Before we headed to the parking area, I took my last glance at the main entrance and snapped this photo.

And what a nice scenery to end our day.....a sundown at the parking lot.

I hope you enjoyed the Al Ain Aerobatic Show series. Thank you my blogger friends and followers for always visiting Al Ain City Daily Photo. Have a nice day!!

Al Ain Aerobatic Show 2011 Series: Mirage 2000

3 comments:
This post is the second to the last entry for my week-long Al Ain Aerobatic Show series. One more day and its over. Yay!!

The biggest jet that I have ever seen during the event (maybe because we were late for 2 hours) but less with aerobatic display was the Dassault Mirage 2000-9, a multirole fighter jet from UAE Air Force. At the time of its thundery performance, my son was a bit cranky and I ended up snapping few photos at the beginning and at the end. Though its performance was quite devoid of aerobatic display, this aircraft left the spectators spellbound because of its size.

Click here for more information about this fighter jet.

Last post for this series will be posted on or before Tuesday.

Al Ain Aerobatic Show 2011 Series: Pyro Truck & a Mercedes Benz car

4 comments:
As much as I would like to end this series with this blogpost, I simply couldn't because I couldn't  incorporate the other photos with this entry. Photo uploading-related issue is really irritating me. I'd rather make a separate blogpost for the rest of the photos than calling our internet service provider. For those who enjoyed my previous posts, thank you very much. And for those whom I bored to death with this series, please bear with me. Just two more days and it will be over. :))) Anyway, let me continue my week-long story.

Another crowd pleaser was PYRO, a jet powered truck with rip roaring brutally-bombastic performance. I wanted to cover my ears as the truck engine fire with its ear-breaking sounds, especially when the bombs were finally dropped into the desert and created a blast. I can say that it was really an olfactory and acoustically unpleasant experience but it was a superb visual treat at the same time.

It wasn't only an aeroshow, it was indeed a show of the best cameras and lenses. From phone cameras  and entry level cameras to high-end type of cameras; and from kit lenses to zoom lenses that oftentimes I called "bazooka", everything was there. Owned by the spectators who were sitting on the lower to the upper-most bleachers wanting to capture every moment.

photographers, photo enthusiasts and photo hobbyists
some spectators at the grandstand....

and some at the middle of the desert
And for those with passion for luxury and sports car, I am pretty sure that the nail-biting on-ground stunt display presented by two professional drivers was really amusing and hit the core of their interest. This awesome Mercedes-Benz latest model was  presented by Emirates Motor Company, one of the official sponsors of the event.

TO BE CONTINUED...

Please comeback tomorrow if you'd like to see some of the photos of UAE's Mirage 2000 and on or before Tuesday if you wish to see the RC planes and jets, Skydivers, Miss Demeanour, few motor cross stunts and some of the on-ground  displays.
