This is an Arabic incense burner. I saw this golden mabkhara in one of the abaya shops at Bawadi Mall. The use of an incense burner is very typical among Emirati families. They usually burn their oud and bakhoor soaked in fragrant oils in a mabkhara and pass it on among their visitors and guests as a gesture of hospitality.

This photo was taken last Thursday evening when we headed to the said mall to eat out at Papa John's.

Word of the day: mabkhara is the Arabic word for an incense burner. Salaam!

  1. It's so cool! Artistically beautiful!
    I'd love to have one.
Do you use mabkhara too? :)

  2. It's a lovely vessel and I like the ritual.

  3. I'd like to bring home to Philippines an Arabic burner just because the designs are intricate. I'll be checking more of your posts to take a peek of Al Ain because I've never been there although I live in Abu Dhabi. ;)

Thanks for the blog visit and taking time to leave a comment, by the way.

  4. oh, i'm certainly learning a thing or two whenever i visit your blog.
i'm always interested at other people's culture and this burner is a first for me, pretty btw,
esp. love the smell of incense. ^0^

Marhaba! SHUKRAN JAZILAN for taking time to reading my posts and posting your comments.
